A woodland welcome for baby Sky

Steve and Louise Weir followed a new family tradition when they asked friends and relatives to forget the usual Christening presents in favour of contributing to a "green gift" for their baby son Sky. The tradition started last year when Steve's brother Nick and his wife Carol set up a celebration fund with the Woodland Trust whilst they were expecting Sky's cousin Matilda. The Trust handled all the administration and thanked all the contributors individually so it couldn't have been easier.
Now both children have their own dedicated acre in Lineover Wood, Gloucestershire - which will grow and change with them. Matilda's dad is so taken with the whole concept that he has since signed up as a volunteer to help care for the wood, and the families plan to take the children on picnics and walks through "their" acres in the years to come.
